Danair RN-16-16M Magnetic Palm Nailer

Posted in Danair, Product Guide on March 10th, 2010 by Adm – Comments Off

Danair is where the palm nailer started so the company knows exactly what it takes to make a palm nailer that does the job properly. It is also recognised as the makers of some of the safest palm nailers on the market.

As the name of this nailer suggests it features a magnetic tip to hold the nails in place before they are driven home. The palm nailer operates not by a trigger as with other nail guns but by applying pressure to the head of the nail and it stops when the pressure is removed.

Also available for this particular tool are optional guides that will allow it to drive finish nails up to 7/8” in diameter. In other words it is possible to use on guide when hammering finish nails and then changing to another guide when using a common head nail.

The RN-16-16M operates with air pressure of 90-120psi, it is able to comfortably drive nails sized 6D through to 16D bulk nails, and it only weighs 2.5 lbs. The construction is metal making this a particular durable tool and it is light enough to remain comfortable while using it over long periods of time.

Grip-Rite GRTMP16 16d Mini Air Nailer

Posted in Grip-Rite, Product Guide on February 15th, 2010 by Adm – Comments Off

Even in the world of small power tools there is room for a mini version and when it comes to palm nailers the Grip-Rite GRTMP16 16d Mini Air Nailer
is the baby brother in the palm nailer family. Because this is a cut down version of other palm nailers it is going to have the advantage over other tools of being able to reach places that others can’t get to.

The Grip-Rite GRTMP16 16d Mini Air Nailer is one third the size and weight of a regular sized palm nailer making it incredibly light in the hand and making it a comfortable nailer to use. it can get into all kinds of tight corners to allow a nail to be driven where other palm nailers won’t fit.

However there are a couple of downsides to using this small tool. The first is that it doesn’t have the power that other palm nailers have. 14d nails that might take less than half a second to nail in with larger machines can take up to 2 seconds with the Grip-Rite. A related problem to the low power is the fact that the nails are not always going to be nailed flush to the board. This problem seems to be alleviated as the nails get smaller and the wood gets lighter.
